• Directing "Thunderstorm"

    — Weaving 100+ Voices into a Single Narrative

  • Overview

As the chief director of our school's annual production of Thunderstorm, I faced a unique creative challenge: this classic play needed to be performed segment by segment across six different classes. My mission was to serve as the unifying "narrative glue," transforming these independent performances into a cohesive artistic presentation. I coordinated over 100 cast and backstage crew members, working with 6 scriptwriters to maintain narrative continuity while guiding nine backstage teams to achieve seamless stage transitions.

Unifying the Vision: From Conflict to Resonance

When different classes developed conflicting interpretations of the protagonist Zhou Ping - some emphasizing his rebellious nature while others focused on his cowardice - I organized joint rehearsals to guide actors through analyzing the character's developmental arc. We ultimately reached a consensus: cowardice formed the character's foundation, while resistance represented a gradual awakening. This unified character interpretation became our performance benchmark and was shared with all participating classes.
